The Gravitas Monster Aluminium Ultem Red fountain pen combines precision engineering, technical materials and a bold colour contrast. Based on the well-balanced shape of the renowned Gravitas Vac, the Monster has been carefully engineered around proportion and weight distribution. The result is a substantial yet well-balanced fountain pen that remains comfortable even during extended writing sessions. The cap also features an inner Delrin sleeve, designed to provide a smoother feel when capping, uncapping and posting the pen.
At the heart of the pen is the innovative Kraken Filling System, developed by Ben Walsh and inspired by mechanical heart valves. Its highly efficient design provides an ink capacity of up to approximately 6 ml, allowing a considerable amount of ink to be drawn into the pen even with a single plunge.
The mechanism uses a specialised quad-ring seal whose geometry retains lubricant between its contact points, helping to ensure consistent lubrication and an effective seal over time.
The Gravitas Monster Aluminium Ultem Red is fitted with a large silver-colour Size 8 steel nib paired with an ebonite feed, available in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium and Broad. The unscrewable section also makes cleaning, lubrication and maintenance of the filling system easier.
